Intro to the Human Rights Council Chairs

By: May Lee, Hsinchu American School

The Human Rights Council of TAIMUN XII this year is going to debate on the issue of Measures to prevent human trafficking for organ trade, and question of government retribution against anti-government protesters. Any delegate in the Human Rights Council will be astounded by the two diligent chairs: Angela Wang, and Noah Lin.

As a junior at Pacific American School (PAS), TAIMUN XII will be Angela’s tenth conference. She has been chair in PASMUN, with various other MUN experience as a professional delegate. Angela enjoys attending MUN conferences because she loves the way people speak on the podium: confident and eloquent. She loves how she gets to meet new people from different parts of the world and make new friends. Also, she loves the fact that the debate is constructive, instead of destructive, and that is what triggered her to join MUN. “I joined MUN since I love debating.” Angela finds this year’s HRC topics unique since people always concern about human trafficking, but they forget that human trafficking has different sub-categories. “It is an issue that people often forget, but once they remember, they’ll realize that it’s a heated issue.”

With Noah’s assistance, HRC committee will be even more magnificent than it already is. Noah is also very experienced after ten MUN conferences. He believes that this year’s issues are unsolvable, but he is glad to see people try. “It’s an issue that has always existed and in my opinion unsolvable, but at least people are trying.” Noah enjoys being a MUN-er because he is satisfied with the fact that he doesn’t need to go to class during conferences, and he wants some variation during his school day. He enjoys slamming the gavel and scaring people “I’VE GOT THE POWER!”

As a final message, Angela hopes that delegates are passionate about MUN and hopes that they will enjoy the debate. In addition, Noah also hopes that delegates will enjoy this conference and is also hoping delegates to submit amendments, make speeches for the chairs to enjoy. With these two chairs, not only experienced but also passionate, the Human Rights Council at TAIMUN XII will be splendid!
