TAIMUN - 12th Press members

Hello, my name is Angela Lai and I am currently a senior studying at the American School in Taichung. I was born in Australia and have lived there until grade four. I have an one and a half year younger sister who is taller than me. I play the piano as well as volleyball but my favorite like-to-watch sport is soccer.

Arts and technology interest me thus I volunteered for an open layout designer position in eighth grade. As each annual TAIMUN approached, I applied to Press and finally got a chance to be the Layout Editor and Editor in Chief. This year, I will be working with Eric and hope to produce some of the best TAIMUN issues.

Hello, this is Jenny Luk, currently a junior in American School in Taichung (AST). I’m partly Malaysian and partly Taiwanese, but I’ve spent half of my life in Canada and the other half in Taiwan.

To start off, I’m an ambitious, young woman with big, big dreams. My long term goal is to manage a business, own a hotel, build a school with my best friend Priscilla, to create a new magazine with another best friend, Stephanie, and establish some kind of legacy. In the short run, I hope to take advantage of every opportunity given to me and to be as approachable as I can to meet different people and contribute to people's lives.

(PS. I just got my Red Cross License/Certificate; I’m officially a certified Red Cross member that could save lives!)

I’m not sure about the rest of the press team, but when I was asked to write a short autobiography, I went blank. I thought to myself, I’ve only lived 17 years—what is there to tell? My background can be summed up into this: I grew up in Australia, had a carefree, happy childhood, and I moved to Taiwan when I hit 8 years old.  I’ve met a lot of lovely people in my life and I hope you (yes, you, the one reading my silly autobiography) will be an addition to that list. And since Word is telling me I haven’t reached my minimum word-count, I shall tell you a bit more about myself. I am the type of person who is hard to get to know, but crazy once I open up; who walks into a room and forgets why I walked there; whose only talent is tearing up within 10 seconds; who works hard and plays hard; who never procrastinates; who lies about never procrastinating; and last but not least, who looks forward to meeting all of you at TAIMUN XII.

Hi, I am a senior from Morrison Academy in Taichung. I used to attend AST in middle school so I am really familiar with the environment and how the whole process works. Even though being a reporter might not seem as actively involved as delegates or officers, the process of understanding issues and listening to debates help me to learn global crisis just as much. This will be my third year participating TAIMUN since sophomore year.  The unforgettable experiences in Press the past two years have urged me to apply to Press Team again as a significant way to make my last year in high school.

Good luck everyone! See you around~

Hello, my name is Sheryn Liao and I’m currently a junior in AmericanSchool in Taichung. My position this year in the Press team is photographer. During spare time, I watch random things to entertain myself such as Chinese and Japanese talk shows and listen to a variety of different music. I also enjoy watching different documentaries and just by looking at them, I would often get motivated, since those documentaries lead me into another perspective of how unique people view their lives. Furthermore teaching me that people really do need to cherish their lives when they’re born normally. Other than what my hobbies are, I love eatingcashews, eggs and granola bars, because not only are they nutritious food, but also crunchy and palatable. :D

My name is Nancy and I’m currently in 11th grade at American School in Taichung. I’m from Korea and my family and I moved to Taiwan when I was three years old. Before transferring to AST in 10th grade, I attended local school and two years of bilingual school. I enjoy reading, listening to music, playing flute and piano, and drawing. I do not enjoy doing any sports except for running and swimming. This is my second year participating in TAIMUN, but it is my first year working in Press. I look forward to work with the enthusiastic members of the press team this year.

Hello! Eric here and you’re watching my biography now! I am from Vancouver, Canada and I spent my childhood there. I have studied in Seattle and then came to Taiwan to learn Chinese culture. Aside from that, living in those places mentioned, I especially enjoy - Travelling! Travelling embodies the awesomeness of food, accommodations, and relaxation. I love trying out new food, hanging around streets, taking pictures, and enjoying the culture. From that I begin to discover my interest in learning languages - including Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean...etc. Trust me, without language obstacles it makes travelling even more exciting! Okay, so now back to topic on Model UN, yes, I have applied for editor this time along with Angela and I am honored to be your host for the deadlines (and the 3 o'clock tea break)! This will be my 11th conference and second time as a press member. From my experience being delegate, I feel no more tiring than being press. You will like the experience as you love Pikachu - okay that's just me. You will still need to produce quality work or else you will be paying the team for drinks. I am looking forward to seeing you all in April!

btw. Don't ask me what school I come from because I'm not so sure and you won't know either.

I am Catherine Lu, people usually call me Cathy. I was born in Canada and I came to Taiwan a few months after I was born. I am currently an eighth grade student in Hsinchu American School. I live in Hsinchu with my family, and it takes about two to three minutes for me to get to school. Compared to others, I wake up a lot later than my classmates and friends and I feel exceptionally lucky about it. If you ask me what my favorite food is. My answer would definitely be macarons. However, according to my dentist I am not supposed to eat macarons and yet I still eat them quite frequently. Listening to music and lying on my comfy bed would definitely be my hobbies and my own unique way of passing time. In addition, MONEY is my main interest and I would like to work at financial market trading in the future.

Hello, my name is Sarah Seung and I am currently in junior of American School in Taichung. This is my first MUN experience as press member. Although I was a delegate last year, I got interested in layout design and chose to be a press member this year. I have lived in Korea until I was fifteen and moved into Taiwan. I am enjoying the totally new school system from Korean local school has. I enjoy sports such as swimming, basketball, and skiing and I like to collect clothe tags. I am looking forward to work with other great layout designers, enthusiastic reporters, great photographers and other creative video and website teams. Just say hello to me if you see me, welcome to say in Korean if you know!

Reporter - May Lee

Well, hello there! I am May Lee and I am currently a freshmen studying in Hsinchu American School (HAS). I was born in South Korea, and I lived there until when I was 13 and I moved to Taiwan. I am totally enjoying my life in Taiwan with my new friends and in new environment. I like to play piano and flute, and I like to play fencing. I am in love with a lot of TV shows such as sherlock and the following, and I am a big fan of all kinds of music! I have participated in MUN since eighth grade, but this is the first time being in the press team. I am very excited to meet everyone in the press team as well as all other delegates who will be coming to TAIMUN XII. I am looking forward to meet you all, and hope to get along! See you soon guys!

Reporter - Emily Tang

I have participated in MUN since seventh grade, but this is my second year in the press team. I decided to join the press team because designing layouts and writing articles, is in my opinion, more interesting than debating. After all, I am a quiet person most of the time and fighting to make speeches really isn’t my thing. I like matcha. I just feel like I cannot leave it out of my autobiography. Who can resist a hot cup of Starbucks matcha? An addition of a few macaroons and I feel like I can die without regret. By the way, I go to American School in Taichung, the school famous for its location in the mountains/forest.

My name is Iris Lee, and I like simple things, like eating and watching too many sitcoms. I like avoiding homework and studying via Sherlock, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, and Revenge, countless re-readings of Pride and Prejudice, and online shopping/YouTube surfing. I bake for the sake of the mixing and whatnot, though still partially for the noms afterwards. I write poetry and short stories, but not very well.

Most people know me as Philip but some of my closest friends call me bear. I am a senior at the International Bilingual School at Hsinchu-Science Park who was born and raised in Northern California. I came to Taiwan around 6 years ago and have grown to adapt to the vastly different culture and environment. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with close friends and relatives, playing sports, and watching any amusing televisionshows. I have one older brother who is currently attending college in California. TAIMUN XII will be my second Model United Nations conference and I hope not only to gain a lot from this conference but also contribute to it.

Hi, my name is Lucy and I'm a sophomore from the International Bilingual School in Hsinchu! I've been in MUN for three years now, having been both a delegate and press member, but this is my first time attending TAIMUN. I personally think USA is the best country to represent because you could say literally anything and get away with it. Like anyone else, you can usually find me on the internet, mostly on Youtube or Thought Catalog. If not, I'm probably playing with my dog, Zara, or watching sitcoms. My favorite color is coral pink/orange, but it changes frequently. I recently started playing League of Legends but I'm only level 10. I really like Blitzcrank but apparently he isn't that good so I didn't buy him. Thanks to Jennifer Ai :)

Greeting to you all. My name is Jayven Chow aka JJ. I don't know how I got this nickname but it just happen. I got 2 siblings, 1 younger brother and 1 older sister. I love sports since young and it is who i am. The main sport I play is soccer and it is my passion since young. However I had an unfortunate injury that put me back 1 year for recovery. Other than soccer, I cycle a lot during the weekends with my dad. It is really fun and I enjoy every moment when cycling with him. Personally I am the type of person that loves nature a lot and would explore different part of Taichung City using my bicycle. Also I do skateboarding, and play all sort of sports. Aside from my sporty lifestyle, I love listening to remix of different songs, eating healthy and the most important of all is GAME. Peace out.

I am the youngest child at home. My brother was always better than me. He was always praised for being the greatest. He was the only man who mastered something that none other could have mastered, The Wind Technique. Despite trying my hardest to succeed him, I have failed to master The Wind Technique. To make up for my failure, I learnt The Fire Technique. Being a master of one of the ancient techniques, both my brother and I were required to join the army. During the invasion, my brother betrayed our clan and slayed our master. It was treason. He has failed me. He killed some of my greatest friends who sought him. He has killed his own soul. He is the definition of EVIL. In order to seek justice I have dedicated my recent years to search him and bring him back to our clan -- placing justice upon him. I will not fail my master and allow his killer to leave. I will take revenge and kill my brother. It hurts me to kill my brother, but I will not betray my honor in a million years. I must preserve it with dignity. My journey begins here.

My name is Jonah Siegel. I was born in New York, New York on January 25th. I am a photography fanatic and I love taking portraits of people in the streets, but I do not like my photo taken. The only photos I take of my self-are silhouette self-portraits. My favorite types of photography are street and long exposures. I also am a humorous guy that likes to tell all sorts of jokes. My favorite types of jokes are puns and Anti-Jokes. I love working in large groups as one big family who share common interests with me.

I am Lisa Chen, currently a senior at American School in Taichung. I had studied in “Garden City”, Singapore, for several years. I enjoy its convenient transportation and diversity of ethnicity. I believe living abroad alone is one of the special experiences I have in my life, and it shapes me into an independent and adventurous person. This year is my second year as well as the last year participating in TAIMUN. I was a delegate in the previous year, and I am wishing to try another position this year. I am looking forward to working with the TAIMUN XII Press team and also to have a great time during my last TAIMUN.

Hi everyone! My name is Maggie Chen and I am currently a junior in AST. I like to read and write in my spare time, my favorite genre of novels is science fiction. I am also interested in photography. One word that my friends would use to describe me is “amusing”.

How amusing is Maggie?

“Scale from one to ten; she has a 5 or 6, while a normal person has a 2 or 3.”

Three facts about me:
1) I have been playing the piano since I was four years old, and I’m still playing…13 years now J.
2) I absolutely hate math/science or anything related to it.
3) My favorite color is blue.

Hi! My name is Andrea Hoang, and I am currently a junior at Taipei American School. I spent majority of my childhood living in San Jose, California. I am a full time cat lady as well as an extreme gamer at Runescape and Minecraft. My hobbies include eating food, playing with cats and playing Maplestory. I have previously attended THIMUN Singapore this past November. I am greatly interested in communications and I hope that this experience will help me with my future endeavors in communications!

I am Nelson Lin from American School in Taichung. I am currently a senior and will be turning eighteen this June. I enjoy sports and music most, particularly anything K-pop related. I spend the best times of my life in K-pop concerts, and I even traveled to Korea once for a concert. I hope to attend more before I leave for college. I also share a great interest in sports, especially volleyball. I have been playing on the varsity volleyball team for years, and our team goal is to win championship this year. Last but not least, I have always enjoyed press team related stuff such as Photoshop, InDesign, and even video productions. I look forward to working with the 2014 TAIMUN Press team and creating lots of great memories.

Hi, I’m Szu Yu Liu, a senior at IBSH. This conference will be my fourth MUN conference, third time as a press member, and my second time at TAIMUN. Writing is one of my main interests, along with it’s close relative of reading, prompting me to take up the position of reporter on the press team. Aside from these more “intellectual” interests, I also play basketball and run cross country. Sadly, one of my major weaknesses happens to be writing autobiographies as I never know what to say about myself. So here’s to another great TAIMUN conference, and I look forward to working with everyone.

Hi I’m Emily. I was born in California, moved to Taiwan when I was 10, and have attended IBSH since then. Although I tend to spend an unusually large amount of time sleeping my life away, I use whatever time I can spare to draw, play League of Legends, and socialize. Unlike most of my peers, I refuse to use Snapchat, Spotify, and Tumblr out of dislike of overly popular sites and applications. The career path that I will follow in the future will most likely concern engineering, although I used to aspire to become an architect or products designer. Most peers see me as hyper, which tends to be a side effect of my ample sleeping habits.

The world is small but the city is big; without the thread of fate, we may never meet each other. My name is Tommy, a junior in Hsinchu American School. For some reasons, I really believe in the fate between people and people, just like you and me. Overall, this is my first time of MUN, so I am really excited and proud to work with everyone here. Actually, I have never done anything noteworthy or mentionable, so if I have to talk about myself, I will say there are couple things that I can't live without, first of all, baseball, I love baseball, it is my favorite sport, I am a baseball fans of MLB and CPBL and a second baseman in my team as well. In addition, guitar and photography play an important role in my life, they are always being the changing point when I feel depressed in my everyday life. Eventually, watching movie, I have to admit that I am a crazy moviegoer, I watch movie all the time. I think that's all about me, thank you all.-3-

Hello! I am Rebecca Lu, a sophomore at Hsinchu American School (HAS). I'm somebody who is interested in everything but good at nothing. Currently, I am the girls’ basketball team captain in my school. I love to play sports, such as basketball and volley ball, it's probably one of my favorite hobbies. I enjoy playing violin in my free time, and I also love to listen to music whenever I have time. I love to acquire any kind of knowledge and make friends with all types of people. I appreciate the opportunity for me to be chosen as a press staff member, and I am looking forward to see you all soon in TAIMUN XII! (:

Hi, I am Tim Wang, a sophomore at IBSH( International Bilingual School of Hsinchu). This is my first time in Tainan MUN and my second time attending MUN Conference. My first time was being a photographer in HsinMUN. I am very honored and excited in being a reporter this year. My strength is in photography, which I contributed to HsinMUN. I enjoyed being a photographer in HsinMUN. I do a lot of photographic journalism, so this might strengthen the bond between my job in MUN press, reporter. I have joined many photographic related clubs at my school. ( You can tell my love for photography) As for sports I am in the badminton team of IBSH. I have started since I was young. I will try my best to be the reporter MUN is finding. It would be a honor to work with other press members.

My name is Ailie Wu and I am from Japan! I am currently a senior in AST. Although I am pure Taiwanese, I was raised and educated in Japan for most of my life. My friends often characterize me as a positive but really lazy person. I like running, watching Disney movies, and playing with animals. This is my 4th year in TAIMUN and I have been a Press member throughout all years. I had always beena reporter, but this year I will be working as an assistant editor. I look forward to working with the Press team this year!

Formal name is Jennifer Ai and I would most likely become your worst nightmare ever if you decide to befriend me. Tendency to use the word "awesome" too much, obsessive gaming to the point where people decided to combine the words dork and geek together to describe me, hence the creation of the word "gork", and I'm a little bit too derp to understand people's thoughts and feelings, or really just about everything. I should also mention that there's a possibility I may appear socially awkward at times, or just flat out weird, so please don't have high Asian expectations from me :)

Hi! My name is Angela Chao. I am currently a junior in American School in Taichung. This is my third year attending TAIMUN, and I am glad to be part of the Press Team this year to help make the layouts of TAIMUN Times. Well… let me introduce a little about myself. In my spare time, I like to watch movies, read adventurous novels, and hang out with my friends. I enjoy traveling to different places and countries because I get chances to meet new people, understand various cultures, and admire the landscape. For this year’s TAIMUN XII, I hope I will meet and work with many awesome people and make this event remarkable and memorable! Look forward to seeing you all on April 10 and 11!

Hi! I’m Jessica Ma, or Jessie, as some people call me. I’m currently a junior in American School in Taichung, and I’ll be taking the positions of both an artist and a layout editor in this year’s Taimun XII. Some words people use to describe me are funny, weird, and sometimes a little bit quirky. I love anything pertaining art, hence my position as an artist, and I’m very interested in fashion, in fact I love collecting eccentric and funky clothing. My hobbies are singing, playing music such as piano, guitar and ukulele. I’m also very good at Photoshop, so I might become handy during the conference if necessary. Generally speaking, I love everything peculiar and unusual, whether in music, art work, or even people. My dream is to become a fashion designer, or singer, if possible. I live in a family of four with two very lovable dogs. Lastly, I’m very excited to work with all of the Press Team members in Taimun XII!
