Intro to the Security Council Chairs

     This year, Priscilla Huang from American School in Taichung, is serving as the chair for the Security Council committee along with her co-chair, Kara Hu from Pacific American School.

     

     After joining the Model United Nations community in 7th grade in which she served as the WHO co-chair in the first TASMUN conference, she has attended 9 other conferences, boasting an impressive array of positions. Although Huang has already attended so many conferences, she points out that “each conference always teaches me something new, whether thats a better understanding of global issues, or learning how to better be a chair, delegate, or just how to socialise better. “ As a chair, Huang is careful to find the balance between interesting and professional, so that she is able to bond with the delegates but firmly keep the committee in order at the same time. Outside of the conference room, she enjoys watching the popular teen favorite “Glee”, but also indulges in less typical hobbies such as competitive equestrian riding, as well as making movies. Huang is also currently in love with tacos.

 

     Hoping to one day major in politics, Kara Hu joined MUN as a freshman hoping to learn more about current world issues and public speaking. After attending HSINMUN as a HRC delegate, she has been to several international conferences, including NAIMUN, THIMUN Singapore, and THIMUN the Hague. “As the smallest council and arguably more intense council, the Security Council should provide exciting arguments... I am looking forward to seeing a strong resolution produced on the topic of Iraq reaching a consensus on how to maintain peace in the fractured republic,” notes Hu. Her favorite hobbies include watching Game of Thrones, which she is drawn to by the political and moral ambiguities of the characters, as well as Teen Wolf, “mainly because of the whole mystery element and conspiracy theories that I find online.” Beyond television shows, Kara enjoys reading DC comics and playing basketball, in which each individual player contributes to the team. Although she is nervous about being a good Security Council chair, she is looking forward to passing creative resolutions.
